NYCE Carnival 2010 Itinerary
NYCE Carnival is in full swing and we have an awesome array of creative, fun, and educational activities for your family to enjoy this summer. Come for an entire afternoon of family-focused activities for kids ages 0-100! All activities are FREE FREE FREE! NYCE Carnival is open every Saturday and Sunday from July 10th-August 14th from 1pm-6pm.
Permission slips must be provided for any child who is not present with a guardian, and a guardian at least 18-years old must be present for all children ages 6 and younger. You may print your permission slip on our website but must bring it in person with proper ID to your childs first day at the carnival. The permission slip will remain in our records for the duration of the carnival. Space at the carnival is limited and families will be admitted on a first come first served basis.
NOTE: We need the weather on our side. Please note that our outdoor carnival only runs in dry weather. In the event of rain, please come visit us the next day!
*July 10th, 2010: World Cup Celebration!*
Celebrate the World Cup with NYCE Carnival at SuperFRONT! Join the team at NYCE Carnival for flag-making, soccer challenges, sports trivia and a screening of Bend It Like Beckham!
1pm: Craft the flag of your favorite team in the World Cup? Dont have a favorite team? Create your own original flag!
2pm: Soccer Bee - Think you know everything there is to know about soccer? Come
flex your knowledge for awesome prizes. But please BEWARE- too many wrong answers can land a big pie in the middle of your face so be ready..
3pm: Soccer Field Day Challenge- Your special soccer moves can earn you special prizes!
4pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Bend It Like Bekham! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
5:30pm: Missed any of the days activities? Come see what crafts/games/prizes we have left and catch the tail end of our movie!
*July 11th, 2010: Bed Stuy Safari!*
Know what a hissing cockroach feels like? Come to the NYCE Carnivals Bed Stuy Safari for a fun interactive day dedicated to all things not human. Be prepared for interactive classes, animal crafts, Safari Fear Factor, and a Geo-Bee.
1pm: Safari Diorama Craft Workshop
1:30pm: Kid Fitness class- Go on a global physical adventure with Kid Fitness and his team of animal friends! (best for ages 2-6)
2pm: Geography Bee- Flex your global animal knowledge for awesome prizes!
3pm: Safari Fear Factor Challenge- This challenge is NOT for the faint of heart. If you cant handle being kissed by a python, this may not be your cup of tea.
4pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Madagascar! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*July 17, 2010: The NYCE Carnival Numbers Running Joint*
Like to run numbers? Does arithmetic make your stomach feel butterflies? Count sheep to go to bed at night? -- then the NYCE Numbers Running Joint is just the thing for you! Join us for a day devoted to the wacky world of math!
1pm: Count it ALL! Weve got so many things that can be counted in this carnival that were putting Count Dracula to shame! Correct answers earn you fabulous prizes!
1:30pm: Running Numbers NYCE Style: We have a winning ticket- but you have to solve the problem to claim your prize! Math sleuths, step up the plate and bring home your reward!
2pm: Defy Physics with The Super Duper Egg Drop Challenge! Pad it, box it, hug it, wrap it, but DONT BREAK IT!! Think you have what it takes to keep your egg intact? Prove it!
3pm: Bed Stuys New Bridge! Gather in teams to build a new mini-bridge for Bed Stuy to help the ants cross Atlantic Avenue.
4pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*July 18, 2010: Winter in July!*
Cool off from the summer heat with the arctic chill of the glacial planes! Come see Santa in shorts, enjoy wintry crafts, and learn about the obscure Antarctic animal culture.
1pm: Snow Man Making Competition!- We promise it wont melt!
2pm: Santa in Shorts festive Sing-a-long and giveaways! Sing your favorite winter toons with our festive Santa to celebrate the half-way mark to our 2010 Holiday Season!
3pm: Snow Cones all around! Like ice? Youll like these!
3:30pm: Arctic Trivia- Know what a narwhal is? Know why an ingloo is warm on the inside? --Then you may have the chops to win popsicles to freeze at home during our Arctic Trivia Challenge!
4pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening Happy Feet! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*July 24, 2010: Fete de la Musique ! World Music
Celebration!*
Dance your way through July during a rhythmic day devoted to the wonderful world of music! Explore musical instruments from across the globe and dance the day away under the hula hoop canopy.
1pm: Create your own percussion instrument.
1:30pm: Instrument Show & Tell! Touch, hear, and practice musical instruments from around the world.
2pm: Hip 2 the Hop music class with NY City Explorers- Sample one of NY City Explorers’ most popular classes (best for children 6 and under)
3pm: Name that instrument trivia challenge- Know what a flute sounds like? How about a zitar? Test your music schools for fun prizes.
4pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of The Wiz! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*July 25, 2010: Nautical Nonsense!*
Come prepared to get wet! Come prepared to get wet! Come prepared to GET WET!
1:00pm: Hula Hoop watercolor project- Let your inner artist be inspired by the beautiful canopy as you create your own artistic rendering of the carnival yard
1:30pm: Sea Shanties with Sam!- Pirates unite for this fun nautical sing-along.
2:00pm: Water Balloon Challenge Obstacle Course! There is no way to stay dry during this challenge.
3:00pm: Create your own Pirates Gear and prepare to walk the plank!
3:30pm: Tall Tales of the Sea- Join us for a story time that even dolphins would enjoy.
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of The Goonies! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*July 31, 2010: Foooood Fight!!*
Join us for a day devoted to the gastrointestinal celebration of all things edible!
1:00pm: Let’s play with food! Visit our craft session for a fun array of yummy and edible projects.
1:30pm: Neighborhood Cooking War-BBQ Challenge: Think your BBQ is the best in the borough? Bring enough food for 10 of our surprise judges for a chance that you will be crowned Boss of the BBQ! Winner will receive an awesome prize and a permanent place on our carnival website.
2:00pm: Food Pyramid Trivia Challenge- Train your belly to work in cahoots with your brain for fun prizes!
3:00pm: Funky Food Challenge: Like rotten eggs? How about chocolate covered cockroaches? Then this game is for you! The most adventurous eater walks away with the day’s grand prize.
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Ratatouille! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*August 1, 2010: Scaredy Pants Day!*
Celebrate the start of August with a day devoted to the scarier (but not too scary) parts of life. Due to noise restrictions, participants will not be allowed to scream over 95 decibels.
1:00pm: Story Corpse- Monster Craft: Work with other carnival participants to create your own Monster
1:30pm: Rankipes- Create your own rank, smelly concoctions of slimy, slippery goo to take home and share with your neighbors.
2:00pm: Monster Education course with Dr. Hekklestankle Johnson
3:00pm: Who did it? Murder Mystery Challenge
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Monsters Inc.! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*August 7, 2010: “Back in the Day” Day*
Join us for a day devoted to the days of yesterday. We will travel back in time through dance, games, and fashion and learn why it is so important to know where we come from.
1:00pm: Oldies but Goodies Dance Party - From the twist to the Electric Slide, we will span the decades through dance.
2:00pm: Back in the Day Dress-up with photo opportunities
2:30pm: History Challenge- History buffs unite to bring home the bacon for knowing your history and proving it!
3:00pm: Tall Tales from back in the day
3:30pm: Write your own personal
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of American Tales! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*August 8, 2010: NYCE Carnival School of Fine Arts!*
Join us for a day devoted to visual art as we explorer art history and graffiti.
1:00pm: Mona Me! Have a hand at drawing yourself as you create your own Mona Lisa.
1:30: Painting Charades challenge!-Your artistic skills can win your team some fabulous prizes, so come ready to paint your way to success.
2:00pm: Customization Station- Use your graffiti skills to tag your own hats and t-shirts.
3:00pm: Super Hero Animation Workshop- Try your hand at animation and create your own flip cartoon books to take home!
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of The Incredibles! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*August 14, 2010: Go Green with the NYCE Junkyard Carnival!*
Reduce, reuse, recycle, but most importantly HAVE FUN! Trash has many uses, and we are devoting this carnival day to prove it.
1:00pm: Trashformation Station- Watch your old milk carton turn into a pull toy and your old tissue box turn into a musical instrument. With trash, anything is possible.
2:00pm: The Wonderful World of Recycling challenge- Become master recyclers in this fun challenge for awesome prizes.
3:00pm: Green Cleaning Demonstration- Lets investigate whether Clorox matches up with Seventh Generation. Could it be really true that we can clean responsibly? Let’s put those natural products to the test!
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of FernGully! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
*August 15, 2010: Bed Stuy Project Runway*
Calling all fashionistas for a day devoted to all things fashion! Boys and girls alike will enjoy this day devoted to the fashion industry.
1:00pm: Project Runway challenge- Use the materials on hand to design a fierce outfit for the NYCE Carnival fashion show.
2:00pm: Fashion Career Day- Listen to stories from professionals in the fashion industry to find out just how your dreams can become a reality
3:00pm Church Hat Pageant!—Think you rock the most fashionable hat in the congregation? Prove it! Winner walks away with a fabulous prize.
3:30pm: Fashion Show Extravaganza
4:00pm: Bring all of your friends for a screening of Mahogany! Complete the NYCE Movie Scavenger Hunt for prizes!
